we all face a multitude of monsters throughout our lives, unknowns that make us nervous or afraid.
The president is now calling himself the law and order president. This is just as ridiculous as his posing in front of the church. This is the president that courted the minority vote claiming he will turn things around for the minority community, and yet in over three years he has done nothing. Today he has made clear that his idea of “law and order” has nothing to do with reforming the legal system of the nation, but to use the military and police system to oppress those who have any criticism of his presidency.
his advisers suggested that he address the nation (from the bunker) with words of unity, but he refused since he didn’t have any bills to sign. While he hunkered down safely and with nothing to say to the people, presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Biden was out with the marchers in person in a show of solidarity.
Don’t misunderstand me. I am not saying that I favor these riots and the destruction they are bringing. The officer most responsible for the death of George Floyd has been arrested (the quickest arrest of an officer in Minnesota history as I understand it) and charged with murder. Investigations continue on the other three officers present, and charges against them have not been ruled out. I hope the justice system will treat these charges seriously and give fair trials and proper sentences as warranted, but if these officers were the only cause for the protests, then they would have ended by now. This is the result of deeper inequities that have never been addressed.
Something needs to be done and going down the same path isn’t the right answer.
These are but the latest examples of the president insulting our allies, severing international ties, and casting aspersions in an attempt to deflect blame for his own actions and the consequences thereof.
There are some things that are critically important to maintain believable independence. You would not trust your doctor, for example, if you knew she was working for a pharmaceutical company.
regardless of the roots, I don’t understand why people fall for it. The individuals are still the ones who have chosen to show up, and for what? The opportunity to drink in a bar instead of at home?
Usually the best way for me to start feeling better about myself is to do something nice for somebody else. My friends are used to me periodically asking that they do something nice on my social media page, usually for some stranger.
The pandemic has wreaked havoc. There’s just no two ways about that. While people are struggling with being unable to work, teaching children at home, loss income and insurance the hardships have rippled throughout or society. Higher education is not without its challenges as well.
