The role must change from being decision maker to being supporter. When a mistake happens, the dad should be the one to stand ready to step in if comfort is needed, and if help is needed to guide their child through the perceived mistake and its consequences. Trying to be a father after the fact can do nothing save perhaps to push the child away when she or he needs her parents the most.
